Counselling can provide a supportive, non-judgmental space to better understand yourself, navigate challenges, and build skills for meaningful change. In my work, clients often experience benefits such as:
Increased self-awareness and understanding of emotions, thoughts, and patterns
Practical tools to manage anxiety, stress, low mood, and emotional overwhelm
Support through life transitions, grief, identity changes, and periods of uncertainty
Improved communication, boundaries, and relationship satisfaction
Greater alignment with personal values and more confident, intentional decision-making
Strengthened emotional regulation, resilience, and self-trust
For athletes and active individuals, counselling may also support:
Managing performance pressure, expectations, and self-criticism
Navigating injuries, setbacks, and return-to-play concerns
Exploring identity beyond sport and building balance between performance and well-being
Improving focus, confidence, motivation, and mental flexibility
Integrating mental health and performance in a way that supports sustainable success
Counselling is a collaborative process that is tailored to your goals, values, and lived experience. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people use counselling as a proactive space for growth, support, and self-reflection.

While counselling is generally very beneficial, it’s important to be aware that it can sometimes feel challenging, especially at the beginning. Possible risks or challenges may include:
Experiencing uncomfortable emotions as difficult topics are explored
Temporary increases in distress, sadness, or anxiety between sessions
Feeling tired or emotionally drained after sessions
Discomfort when reflecting on patterns, beliefs, or experiences
Frustration if progress feels slower than expected
These experiences are often a normal part of the therapeutic process and usually lessen over time. I will work with you to ensure sessions feel safe, supportive, and paced appropriately, and you are always encouraged to share feedback or concerns.

Counselling looks different for everyone, and it’s okay if it takes time to decide whether it’s the right fit. A strong therapeutic relationship is key, and you have the right to ask questions, set boundaries, and make choices about your care.
For athletes, counselling can be helpful not only during times of difficulty, but also for performance support, injury recovery, confidence, burnout, and transitions in or out of sport. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit.
If you’re unsure, a consultation can be a helpful way to explore whether counselling feels like the right next step for you.

It’s completely normal to feel unsure or nervous before your first session. The first appointment is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a comfortable, supportive therapeutic relationship.
In the first session, we will typically:
Talk about what brought you to counselling and what you’re hoping to get out of it
Review important information such as confidentiality, consent, and limits to privacy
Discuss your current concerns, stressors, and supports
Explore relevant background information at a pace that feels comfortable for you
Begin identifying goals or areas you’d like to focus on moving forward
You don’t need to have everything prepared or know exactly what to say. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels right in that moment, and you can always ask questions along the way.
-
Payment is due at the time of your session. I accept credit and debit cards, e-transfer, and direct billing to Pacific Blue Cross and Sun Life.
If you plan to use insurance, I recommend confirming your coverage details directly with your provider, as not all plans cover counselling sessions with RCCs.
Receipts are emailed to you directly from the Jane App for reimbursement or record-keeping purposes.
If you have questions about payment or insurance coverage, you’re welcome to reach out before your first session for clarification.

Appointments are reserved specifically for you. I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as missed appointments, are typically charged the full session fee.
I understand that unexpected situations can arise. If something comes up, please reach out as soon as possible. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with care and understanding, while maintaining fairness and consistency for all clients.
